Introduction to the Education, Sustainability, and Global Futures Learning Futures Collaborative
Learning Futures Collaboratives (LFCs) are futures-focused, ideas-driven transdisciplinary groups of who have come together around some of the biggest challenges in education today!
What is a Learning Futures Collaborative?
Learning Futures Collaboratives (LFCs) are futures-focused, ideas-driven transdisciplinary groups of scholars and experts who have come together around some of the biggest challenges in education today. Arizona State University’s Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College created the LFCs initiative with the goal to merge diverse research interests, knowledge traditions, and specializations to address significant challenges in education that might not be easily solved through singular methods or perspectives.
Who are we?
The Education, Sustainability, and Global Futures LFC, established in August 2022, is a group of faculties, researchers, education practitioners, graduate and undergraduate students, and community representatives who are driven by the futures-focused question “What education policies, practices, research, and pedagogies are necessary to reverse the ecological catastrophe trajectory and begin rebuilding resilient and sustainable futures for all?”
What are the goals of the Education, Sustainability, and Global Futures LFC?
Education is implicated in the ecological crisis and our failure to imagine alternatives. Despite efforts stemming from the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development, schools and higher education institutions continue to perpetuate the status quo. They reinforce beliefs in human exceptionalism, individual freedom at the expense of collective well-being, and the hierarchical “man over nature” relationship, fueling infinite economic growth on a finite planet.
This Learning Futures Collaborative aims to reimagine and reconfigure education toward the future survival of the planet and people.
